What we do

Storage, blending and transhipment in The Bahamas

Liwathon B.O.S. stores, blends and tranships crude oil and refined products for traders, refiners and producers across the Atlantic basin. It is a privately owned port with an offshore Sea Island, in East Grand Bahama.

Cargoes arrive and leave by sea, at the Sea Island, at the inner-harbour berths or by ship-to-ship transfer. With Liwathon E.O.S. in Estonia, it gives Liwathon Group terminals in both the Baltic and the Atlantic basin.

Berths

Five berths, and a Sea Island for the largest tankers

We have five berths, with up to 30 m of water alongside: two at our offshore Sea Island and three in the inner harbour. The Sea Island can work up to three ships at once, and its two dual-loading berths take the largest vessels, including VLCCs and ULCCs.

  • Two dual-loading berths at the Sea Island

One on each side of the Sea Island platform, both for VLCCs and ULCCs.

  • Three berths in the inner harbour

With the two at the Sea Island, that makes five berths in all.

  • Up to three ships at once

The Sea Island can work up to three ships at the same time.

  • Ship-to-ship transfers

Certified equipment and trained personnel, in line with IMO/OCIMF guidelines.

Storage

Twelve tanks, from 22,000 to 750,000 bbl

Our large tanks have floating roofs that need no heel (a minimum layer of product), so tanks can be emptied completely and every grade kept fully segregated.

Connections

Pumping and segregation

  • Banks of loading arms and the deck pipework on the Liwathon B.O.S. Sea Island, with the approach trestle in front.

    Pumping

12,000 m³ an hour (about 75,000 bbl) between ship and tank, for less time alongside and efficient handling of heavy crude.

  • Domed storage tanks at Liwathon B.O.S., each in its own bunded cell, seen from the air.

    Segregation

No heels are needed to float the tank roofs, so every grade can be kept completely apart, from ship to tank and back.

  • Two tankers moored either side of the Liwathon B.O.S. Sea Island, seen from directly above.

    Blending on discharge

Heavy crude can be blended with light crude as it is discharged, as well as in tank.

  3. The largest tankers

Sea Island berths for VLCCs and ULCCs, in deep water offshore, and three more berths in the inner harbour.

  4. High pumping capacity

  5. Versatile blending

In tank, with dedicated blenders, or during discharge.
