Community

Part of the places we work

Our terminals and our salt works all have neighbours: High Rock on Grand Bahama, the island of Great Inagua, and Muuga and Maardu in Estonia. As long-term owners, we support them in practical, local ways.

In our communities

Long-term owners, good neighbours

We own our businesses for the long term, so we think about the places around them in the same way. Our teams live and work in these communities. We help where we can be most useful: emergency cover, everyday services, and opportunities for young people.

Ready to help our neighbours

Energy terminal · Liwathon B.O.S.

Liwathon B.O.S. owns and operates the energy terminal at South Riding Point, near the settlement of High Rock in East Grand Bahama.

We use our terminal’s emergency equipment and trained crews to help the local community. Our teams have helped fight forest fires and supported ambulance call-outs.

We are part of the community, and we support local causes and events. They include the Grand Bahama Children’s Home, which gives children in need across the northern Bahamas a safe and caring home. We made a donation to the Home in June 2024, as the terminal was officially opened.

More than a salt works

Solar salt works · Lusca Salt

Lusca Salt is Great Inagua’s largest employer, on an island of fewer than 1,000 people.

Great Inagua is the southernmost major island of The Bahamas, with a salt-making tradition that goes back generations. It is home to Inagua National Park and the world’s largest colony of West Indian flamingos.

We also own and run the Inagua General Store in Matthew Town, which has long been a cornerstone of daily life on the island. Beyond the store, we provide many services to local people: our business on Great Inagua is community-driven.

Investing in the island

We are currently looking to invest around US$150 million on Great Inagua: in the salt works, in Matthew Town, including the General Store, and in other facilities across the island.

We will share news on our Media page as plans are confirmed.

Backing young people in Maardu

Energy terminals · Liwathon E.O.S.

Liwathon E.O.S. runs four energy terminals at Muuga Harbour and in the neighbouring town of Maardu.

We support local young people through the Maardu Youth Centre, helping to fund its leisure and sports activities, from games to sports competitions.

We support students too. In 2020 and 2021, with the TalTech Development Fund, we funded four scholarships for students at Tallinn University of Technology (TalTech), and in 2021 we welcomed our first trainees from the Estonian Maritime Academy of TalTech.
